Stop Loss

Stop Loss

A Poem by Amy

I wake up today,

nothing has changed.

My uniform lays over my cot,

with the same blood stains from yesterday.

My sergeant leader calls on us to get ready,

we are leaving soon.

I don’t know if I’ll make it this time,

all I can do is believe.

I’m here for my country,

we unite together as one,

with the goal of protecting our nation.

We proudly carry our flag,

as we march one by one,

preserving our pride and dignity,

as we stand strong.

My helmet is tightly secured,

my badges shine in the light,

I carefully carry my rifle,

and pray with all my might.

Why can’t we create peace?

Where is the love?

How can we stop from harming one another?

What more can be done?

I'm retired from the Navy and a Vietnam veteran. In my time, the one thing that we knew we could count on was that the military would keep it's word. A contract was as good as gold. So now it's very hard for me to imagine people being held after their time to go home has come. It's almost like the book/movie "Catch 22," where the WWII bomber pilots could never achieve their required number of missions because the brass kept raising them. I believe things will get better in the near future.

Dear Amy ,after i read the first few lines ,i hesitated ,i said i would not comment ,i respect your views ,everyone like his country, its like a mother if you will not defend it then who will ,but as i went on i liked your last lines ,truely i did...
I carefully carry my rifle,
and pray with all my might.
Why can't we create peace?
Where is the love?
How can we stop from harming one another?
What more can be done?
these were the loveliest lines from a worrior who fights to bring peace, not more war and blood ,its peace that we need dear Amy,enough with the hatred ,lets stop the blood flowing free,Where is the Love as you say
Where is the Love?.....
