Jeff Buckley Six Years Later

Jeff Buckley Six Years Later

A Poem by Doug
"

This is a very personal one for me. I wasn't even going to post it on here until Annelise almost forced me to. But I'm very happy with it.

"

I wasn’t ready for

The Last Goodbye or Hallelujah

Until six months

Past our six years.

What else am I ready for?

“But love is not a victory march

It’s a cold and it’s a broken hallelujah,”

He sings.

In the quiet apartment

I’m wondering if he’s wrong.

Again and again he sings it.

I needed a haircut

Two weeks ago.

The kitchen mess builds.

Third time around

And he’s convincing me

He’s right.

Using "Hallelujah" as the framework to hang a piece concerning the remnants/aftermath of a relationship is a wonderful device. The use of understated, matter-of-fact language (ending with a whimper instead of a bang as it were) is also wise and judicious; this piece would be much less powerful and haunting as a garment-rending, wailing rant. A fine piece of writing.

this is really intense; i can tell how personal it is; there are definitely pieces of your soul scattered on the page.

but i'm so glad you put this up here; it is a fantastic piece. it's really tight, and artistically something really great. there's dimensions to it, and yet a simplicity that places itself right in to our hands so we can look at it and apprecaite it honestly and clearly.

i love it. i'm glad you were (forced) to put it up here lol
just sorry i took a few days to get to it; really great write my dear

About
One night while I was asleep I had the words, "Veni, Vidi, Vici" repeating in my head. All night this happened. I want to somehow use this creatively. I feel like it was a sign to use it for some s.. more..
