Episode 1- Delivery Man

[intro, song-stab city, as tall as lions introduce characters and show some scenes from the future at 1:07 on the song, volume down and show kennedy walking]

[Kennedy] [narrating] Ever since I can remember, this has all been the same.
Of course I’ve heard stories of a different time.
A time when everything was beautiful.
When buildings weren’t crumbling and when the sun shined from time to time.
But now, when I look around I see this.
[the sky is gray and everything is in ruins]
sure the economy is up, and people are always busy.
I don’t think they even notice the lack of beauty anymore.
[bumps into someone]
[out loud] oh sorry, I didn’t see you there.
[walks into a shop]
[narrating again] my name’s Kennedy, I’m a delivery man, and this is the story of how I brought the light back. [song stops]

[shopkeeper] Kennedy, your late again. One more time and I’ll have to fire you.

[Kennedy] Of course you will, I’m sorry Damen, it won’t happen again.

[Damen] it better not, but for now, I’ve got one delivery for you today. [reads off address on box] here [hands it to him] get going.

[Kennedy] [narrating] and this is how it goes every morning. I wake up, I take a shower, I get dressed, I show up to work on time. But five minutes early is the same as being 25 minutes late, or so Damen says. And then I make a few deliveries. [bumps into someone again] [out loud] I’m sorry man.

[other man] whatever.

[Kennedy] [Narrating] Where was I? Oh yeah, after work, I meet up with my friend William and we usually end up having a few drinks and discussing what’s wrong with this place. See now the funny thing is that while most of the older folks have stories of how beautiful everything used to be; none of them have any idea of how it got like this. [someone steals his package] [out loud] Not today man! [Kennedy begins to chase the thief]

[free running chase with “01 track 1” from the movie soundtrack playlist]

the music comes to a sudden halt as the thief stops and kennedy confronts him.

[Kennedy] you’re cornered man, I know these streets, and I can get around them faster than anyone else. Now, please drop the box and don’t put up a fight.

[of course the guy puts up a fight and kennedy wins easily] kennedy picks up the box and begins walking back out of the alley.

[Kennedy] [Narrating] And sometimes I get the occasional thief. It’s alright though, I like the adrenaline.

[scene change]

[Kennedy] Here’s your package, thanks for doing business with Damon Delivery Service.

[Old man] Have a good day son

[Kennedy] You too sir. [flips out a cell phone and pushes a button, waits a few seconds to connect] Hey Will, it’s Kennedy I just made my only delivery for today, meet up at the place? [waits a second for reply] alright see you there. [hangs up phone]

[scene transition to a bar/pub place, it looks run down there are a lot of people, clearly drunk sitting around and talking, the camera pans and then centers on William]

[William] I don’t know man, like I said, I’ve been talking to a lot of people about all of this. I haven’t heard anything new.

[Kennedy] Jeez, I just know that there is something we can do. Ya know? I had a dream the other night..

[Kennedy explains his dream]

[Kennedy] [Narrating while the dream is shown] I was just standing there, in front of this huge door, it was really dark behind me, maybe pitch black, and through the door, it was just pure white light, it was warm, and I could almost feel it pulling for me to go through. All of a sudden, some invisible force just grabbed ahold of me and yanked me through. I woke up in a cold sweat [shows him waking up and looking at the clock and then shows him sitting at the bar with william] when I saw what time it was I just started getting ready for work. I’m kinda freaked out about it all. I almost feel like it was supposed to be some kind of message.

[William] [sarcastic] wow, bro, you dreamed of going to heaven, that’s grand.

[Kennedy] c’mon man, you’re supposed to believe me, no one else does anymore.

[William] What do you want me to say man? [in a mocking tone] Everyone is a hero, some just don’t know it yet. They just have to be provoked. I cant tell you to wake up, you’re already sitting here wide awake. [pauses] Bro, look at me.

[Kennedy] What?

[William] You’re letting all of this get to your head, maybe the world is like this for a reason, People like us aren’t suppose to mess with the balance. It’ll get everything outta wack.

[Kennedy] Yeah, I guess your right, but still I cant shake the feeling.

[William] What, that we’re meant for something more?

[Kennedy] No, [pauses] Someone took my package today and I chased him down, I got it back from him with a fight, but still, I couldn’t help but think he was just toying with me. [it shows a flashback of the man running and turning just to smile for a second]

[William] What he smiled at you? Maybe he was happy that he stole something today. I dunno man, those freaks are crazy. [pauses] I got some crap to finish up at home, you need to go home and get some alone time, really think over what’s been going through your head.

[Kennedy] do you really think that’s best for such a fragile mind right now? [ mocking him]

[William] Very funny, I’ll see you tomorrow man. [gets up and walks out the door]

[Kennedy] [Talking to bartender] Have you heard anything about a thief that plays with people around here?

[bartender] Plays with people? Like soccer? What do you mean?

[Kennedy] No, someone.. [pauses] never mind. Thanks for the drink. [lays down some money] see you later Frank.

[Frank (the bartender)] Night man.

[the screen cuts to Kennedy walking into his apartment, it’s almost vacant, no art on the walls, not really much there, some sparse furniture and on one wall a bunch of news paper clippings]

[Kennedy] [Narrating] There was something about that guy today. I have a feeling it’s not the last time I’ll see him. [scene change to inside his room he is going straight for his bed] I just don’t know anymore. [lays down]

[screen cuts to a dream. Kennedy is sitting in a white room in a big chair. Across from him is a man wearing all black, his face is shrouded by a hood, he is just sitting there, staring.]

[Kennedy] Who are you?

[man in black] [ponders for a second] My name is Raav. [has an almost middle eastern accent, it’s deep and powerful]

[Kennedy] So Raav, what are we doing here?

[Raav] We are discussing why you ask so many questions.

[Kennedy] Well usually when I’m confused, I like to figure out what’s going on.

[Raav] In your situation, trying to figure out why things are the way that they are. [pauses] you should really think before you act. That man yesterday, the man whom you fought. He was very important with my group.

[Kennedy] And just what is your group?

[Raav] We call ourselves the Fates. You see, we control the fate of things, and have thus named ourselves.

[Kennedy] Is that the point of all of this?

[Raav] No no, you see, we like to give people the chance to make a decision before we intervene any more.

[Kennedy] so what kind of decision are you “allowing” me to make?

[Raav] You will stop in your pursuit of answers to this world, and I will not kill you.

[Kennedy] What?

[Raav] Good Morning.

[Kennedy wakes up and it’s broad daylight, he looks over at the clock, 8 in the morning. He starts to get up when the phone rings. He picks it up]

[Kennedy] Hello? [sounding tired]

[Raav] Don’t forget about our deal Kennedy.

[Kennedy] Raav? What? I thought that was a dream?

[the phone clicks and Kennedy looks at it for a minute. It rings again, he answers it]

[Kennedy] Hello? [sounding scared]

[Damon] Don’t forget about our deal. [pauses] Be here 30 minutes before we open. If you’re late, you’re fired.

[end of episode 1 screen goes black and then a next time on AfterWorld pops up.]

I will be honest I didn't read the whole thing but I liked what I read, intriguing and a clever metaphor for the state many of us find ourselves in...but then again I am from Los Angeles...lol.
