WitnessA Poem by Irma ChavezInsanity, madness takes over, Paranoia breaths over my shoulder, Haunted eyes-- all knowing look on Blank face, small spaces, lights off. It is me, who is Trying to sneak past claustrophobic, Starved windows still closed, Too bad short footsteps make pointy sounds. Turn around, feel about, Where fear grows love does not shout. Eyes near the blinds, arms held apart Our challenge comes to be With the heart’s forgetting to beat; Do you want some company? It appears we forgot how to speak; So he clap clap claps As he screams as he shouts as he f***s, a f*****g until you scream f**k, Raising up a storm of dust. But it’s not anyone’s fault, So I walk back and forth Retracing the past Making up answers that don’t quite add up With the clock’s torture, the train comes near and my feet and the ground and the tracks Disappear; below we are one. And the audience grips me tight with their eyes, As pumping iron waves wash my head Before I feel the rush of universal pain, And the world comes to a halt. No, I Can’t request sympathy Nausea arrived just as planned Scheduled stops create perfect gap For me to walk past your life; Both, near and not, To find cake crumbs of a heartache; The first and the second offense Before the third arrived alongside regret. Here, boiling matter burst into hate! It is you I have grown to detest. Although I look on, I will never forget How you robbed me of never. © 2013 Irma ChavezAuthor's Note
