Peace field

Peace field

A Poem by Mira
"

The story of a battle

"
The battle has ended.
Yet the slashes remained in the air,
Cutting the souls that dared pass by.
One could hear the silence of Death,
Tearing the Life
That throbbed in the ground
Hiding beneath the grass blades.
The soldier walked with a broken sword
His armor falling to pieces.
The crunch of a leaf,
The snap of a twig,
Trembled his heart with tears.
He dragged himself out of the field
Walking away from the river of reasons
That stirred up the canons.
But the river flows in the heart of Man
Filling the veins with poison.

The river of reasons is a good metaphor for the causes of war. No matter which side they are on, the losers are those poor souls who fight those wars, like the soldier depicted here. But it seems like we never learn.

No one wins in war. This poem of the soldier leaving the battlefield weary and broken tells me so. Violence begets more violence and the cycle continues. One can only hope that the battle is finally over and peace is restored.
