Christmas in the South

Christmas in the South

A Poem by Heath Mindy

It was the day before Christmas and I saw each tiny mouse
Sneaking around in the kitchen of my house
I looked to my wonder and all to my amaze
I saw my cat with both eyes in a glaze
It wasn't a moment as I stood very still
I watched these mice scurry and my cat's mouth fill
With one little  furry
That didn't get away
He caught his Day Before Christmas, Dinner that Day.
I blocked up the hole where they came in from
And realized how silly of me and very dumb
To leave these cookies and milk on the stove top,
And forget all about my need, to be ready,
To call a local cop!
...
And if you didn't have a chimney,
Wouldn't you just wonder?
If that noise you heard,
Really wasn't thunder?
Well maybe it would be my cat,
Knocking over this or that.
But I think I'll go to bed, and get these creepy worries
Out of my head.
I really am not so sure, I want to see a fat bearded man in red.
It's always fun to see presents under the tree,
But with my income, they won't be from me!
So I am a little ungrateful you know, that there is no Santa and not even some snow,
So he couldn't come here, anyway.
After all he'd need snow to carry his sleigh.
