"CAT IN THE BAG!" Story about Moving 1000 Miles Away! By mjh 2014

"

A very short story about a cat that moved ONE THOUSAND MILES AWAY!

"

It all began when my husband was out of work for three months! Most of the kittens had been adopted. Well by most, that means one kitten! A Siamese kitten. Two were left! It had been priority to pack up the house and put all in storage. The kittens played as usual. Climbing trees, catching moles.

"What are you going to do with those two kittens?" came the moment.

  "I would love those kittens!"

"I do not think that your wife would love them. She would be angry that you bring them home without asking her."

"No, she would be ok, they will be my kittens."

"I am not sure, I do not want to cause any friction between the two of you." Why don't you go ask her first."

"It will be fine, they will be my kittens, I can afford to take care of them."

This was all true in fact, that he could afford to take care of them. He also seemed to get rather lonely at times, a quiet man in his own right, and did support his household.  His wife could choose to say no, however he was the final say of the household and what he said went.  It might please him to have something to cuddle at night. The married couple often slept in separate rooms, due to illness of the wife. She seemed to be wrapped up in her own little world much of the time. He probably could use some purring conversation.

"I have this pet carrier, you can use it to take them home in." "If your wife is not in agreement with you, be sure to note that you are insisting that you want these kittens for yourself."  "I know you pay the bills, and keep her well, and if you really want them for your own comfort, it would be good for them to have a good home."  I had not even known where I was going to live.  I had no money and no plans for myself or my still in high school child.  Life had taken a real turn for my household, not unlike the following year: that is another story.  The man took the kittens with a huge smile on his face! Full of satisfaction was he, for having won the approval to have those Siamese kittens for free!

In time it was discovered that they were not at all taken for himself! He took them for a woman who lived a thousand miles away. She had requested them when she heard they were born.  Rather than requesting them from the owner, she requested them from this couple who knew the owner.  In a round about way, the couple and the woman were getting something they wanted.  It did not harm the owner, or the kittens in any way!

Eventually the woman came and retrieved in fact, only one of the kittens, after all! The man actually became connected to one of the kittens as did the wife. It had been a lonely winter, as it had been autumn when he took the kittens home to his wife to start with.  The long winter meant broken vases, and lamps and getting adjusted to the pets in the home.  The woman had been delayed in coming after the kittens, and in finality decided to take only one. The couple managed to arrange for free shots and spading and neutering.  The reality that the owner had no idea that such a charity existed was an open door when the news came that she had to move, to arrange to get these kittens free! Kittens that usually sold for up to seven hundred dollars! However, they did not know that the owner was not selling the kittens! She was in fact, giving them away for free! All she really wanted was for them to have good homes. She did not want them used for reproduction! This all worked out for the best for all concerned! Why the sneaky pick up of the kittens? No one would ever figure that one out, especially the owner!  Perhaps it was not at all sneaky, perhaps it was all just a matter of timing and desires that worked out for all's best, that is what the owner personally believes is true, if it is not true, then it is ok too, for the kittens are happy, the owners are happy, and no one needs too many kittens!

Later the story was told to the owner of how the travel went.  A kitty litter box was placed in the van, and the cat carrier that was given to the man was used to transport the kitten.  The story was that most of the time the kitten was held.  Having a need to stop at hotels, the kitten was brought into the rooms along the ride home.  The kitten had it's own blanket from home, and a roasting pan, served as a kitty litter box.  The woman had well planned for the safety and comfort of the kitten.  What was the kittens name? Hunter!  The one left behind was named, Ivory.

Ivory would be lonely for a spell, however the couple had another cat, and even a dog about the size the kitten would soon enough become.

Once the kitten arrived in her new home a thousand miles away, she noticed things were sure different from home! There were lots of houses close together! She could not see her house anywhere! She climbed up a tree! She looked all around, and could not find her home! She could not see Ivory anywhere! It was one thing to go visiting with her brother, but now they are separated, and she cannot find home! She stayed up in the tree for the night. Finally they found a way to get her down. They thought if she had climbed the tree, she would come down.  In the meantime, Ivory climbed a tree at his house too! The same thing happened! He could not find Hunter, and he could not climb down. The elderly couple had to get a ladder and the old man climbed up the ladder and retrieved Ivory!  The next day the woman had someone go up and get Hunter down too! Although these two kittens lived a thousand miles away, they were sister and brother, they were up to the same task, finding one another, or finding," home! "

They began to stay inside more. They were watched carefully.  Hunter found the staircase home.  Ivory found the owners old cat a replacement for his mom, and the old cat did look much like his mom.

One day, Hunter went outside, and did not come home to her new owner, the woman! She had gotten attached to the cat, named Hunter, that she renamed, "Sassy." She was sad that Hunter/Sassy was gone.  She had no idea where she went! She talked to the owner and told her about this, as did the mans wife.  The original owner prayed about it all.  The next day while the woman was on her suburban street, walking with a small child she sat for, she heard a meow! It must of been a very loud meow, as when she looked up, to see where the sound was coming from, there was Hunter/Sassy, 80 feet up in a tree, along the sidewalk!

She had to call the fire department to get a ladder tall enough to reach her! Her husband came home and climbed the ladder to the top of the eighty foot ladder! She met him half way with a pillow case, and when her brought Hunter/Sassy down the ladder half way, forty feet!, he dropped her into the pillow case! The woman carefully got down, with the cat in the bag!

("The photograph was taken by the author being mjh, and are of the actual kittens from this litter the story is about. There was Simba, Ivory, Hunter, Java, and Ebony. The first three, Simba, Ivory and Hunter were Siamese kittens, where the last two, Java and Ebony were Norwegian Forrest Kittens. " The story is merely an impression from the author from chat times she recollects in her memories.")
