Writer's Block

Writer's Block

A Poem by C. Harter Amos

How easily my words came

Bean-sprouting from my brain

They river-flow with smooth agility over rocks,

Passing fish in the rapids as they go

Pressing against the spider webs of mental blocks

Or unmoving, stand with word-weapons drawn,

With foolish demonstrations

Of angst or love

Needing to say what I feel

Like a sensation-word junky,

A would be fantasy fool,

My sanity hiding in a corner and near-never intact.

I don't think writers could ever be sane....or "normal" for that matter...when I got to the last line, I had to laugh...I know the feeling all too well.
You have described the fighting the block rather eloquently...better said than I could have...*L*

I really like this, but almost wish you'd return to it and write more. I love the ideas you have here and the wonderful way you've described them but I think you could dig deeper. Then again I'm always greedy when I find something I like. :)

I love the way that you put this together. Sanity is not something I think is necessary to a good writer, but your piece is so wonderful to read. The flow is perfect...

I like what you did with this. I can relate very well at the moment. I love the last line. It says it all. Nice job!!

a-Muse-singing in trickles of words to prime the pump of a torrent of meanings -- grasping at each one roiling into another like Loves children to come in mutations of mercy and endearing us to the charms of knowing like a twirling Galaxy knows the humble dust from which it many splendid Suns arise!

This is what your wondering did for me ... write on, C.

This is quite good.

"They river-flow with smooth agility over rocks,
Passing fish in the rapids as they go
Pressing against the spider webs of mental blocks"

...the descriptive imagery and metaphor here is admirable. Putting together a piece on writers block can be a pretty bland and boring affair----you've avoided that pitfall nicely. Well done!

"How easily my words came
Bean-sprouting from my brain." Magical! I had visions of Jack in the Beanstalk when I read this!

"Passing fish in the rapids as they go
Pressing against the spider webs of mental blocks"

If this is the result of writer's block, give me a spoonful of this medicine! The only edit I have is a spelling error. The word "junky" should be "junkie". Wonderfully written. Lydia

A terrific piece Mimi, especially since the author has writers block! The picture you paint is delightful. I wanted to say how well this is presented, neat on the page/screen.
"River flowing with smooth agility over rocks"...beautiful imagery and observation skills from a skilled writer...I think your sanity is safe.
Cheers...

I feel this, I've been there, nothing more frustrating. All damned up and no relief in sight. So many cool word combinations, I kept thinking, "Look!" I really enjoyed this.

release yourself from the need make words rhyme...it is an ancient technique to assist in remembering lines, along with the old iambic march of words...just a suggestion, of course...Ed
