I Remember "Our"/26 Minute Goodbyes

I Remember "Our"/26 Minute Goodbyes

A Poem by Arly Parent

I Remember "Our"

I…remember

The smoothness of your skin

The warmth of your mouth

And the closeness of our hearts as we hold each other

Alone in a sea of possibilities

A still spot in an ocean of pain and fighting and waste and…

It doesn't matter

Together

I have to go

I know

Me too

Do you?

26 Minute Goodbyes

I have to go

I’m not leaving

It’s time to get back

            You’re not turning

The time has come but

we just sway

and kiss

and smile,

saying a million goodbyes we’ll never mean--

eye to eye

nose to nose

lips to lips

knowing we’ll speak in minutes

see each other in hours

be one in our dreams when we fall asleep

…together

ear to ear by phone

‘til we can touch again as/after/when the sun rises

But we don’t leave

We won’t leave

we’ll just…

sway
