Poets Are Just Nerds

Sometimes I think we poets and writers

are just nerds in this great big club that...

well...thinks sorta highly of itself.

Not us, though.

But the Club, itself. Or maybe Society.

We're just a bunch of nerds putting together

flowery words, playing with meanings and structures and things

as if they mattered

as if the world was paper and ink

We know, objectively, that they're just words on a page

but...we let each other do it

we let each other pretend and...

we just find acceptance--

a place where we're not so weird

when we play make-believe

Yes, us writers are nerds, but whoever said that was a bad thing? Every type of nerd should have those other secret people who are just like them. Writers are just...observational and deep thinkers who live life by expressing their emotions instead of keeping them inside. We weave our words, our anger, pain, love, into different stories. We rebuild our own lives through words, so then we feel we are able to have a desk start, live again. People call me a nerd because I love to read and write, but I simply smile at them and take it as a compliment :) being a nerd is never a bad thing, just remember that. It's a gift to be a writer and to be able to be so open and expressive about your emotions and inner thoughts unlike how most nowadays who just keep it inside and end up in deeper trouble.
