Why I Learned to See

Why I Learned to See

A Poem by Arly Parent

For you,
I learned the world.

Every bush
and flower
and tree.
Every flowing river
and rolling sea.
Every bird
and fish
and beast.
Every sunrise above
and sunset beneath.

For you,
I learned to see.
To be in every moment.

I became your eyes
when yours couldn't be.
When white hospital walls
became grey-white spotted flecks
and tears
and...
fear.
and lonely darkness

I became your sight for a time
until you were ready
to see again

Wow. Beautifully expressive story turned poem. I love that you tell of each facet of sight for another. Very powerful. Great job.
