The Corner of Ventricle & Atrium

The Corner of Ventricle & Atrium

A Poem by Arly Parent

There's a little house I've been keeping warm for you
Right on the corner of Ventricle and Atrium.
I've been keeping the place safe,
stoking the fire to keep the interior comfortably warm,
even on the coldest of nights.
There are
bay windows and wallpaper,
stone accents,
hardwood floors,
and a great big front door of cherry oak.
The lighting is natural and warm--
the warm that reminds you of pale golden sunlight kissing your skin
the warm that calls to the front of your mind, that memory.
the warm of fresh-baked cookies and lap-sitting and surety and a time when things were easy
The honeyed hues of light bring out the tones of the furniture--
the deep browns and mahoganies of table and seat and...
enhance the softness of the sofa--almost too soft
too easy to forget your problems.
There are flowers on all the tables and the subtle smell of their fragrance lingers at times in the air.
The flowers rotate
from honeysuckle and lilac to rose and hibiscus and tulip and carnation and sunflower and...
There's a house I've been keeping safe and warm for you
Right on the corner of Ventricle and Atrium.

A 'heartfelt' poem indeed. I don't usually comment on free form, but the idea behind this was quite unique, and cleverly thought out. Kudos....
