The Bridge Is Goin' Down

The Bridge Is Goin' Down

A Poem by Miles

The bridge is goin' down...
But who's to notice?

All I need
And I need
'Cause I need
Some Southern Comfort

But don't bleed it on me
Snakeskin stamps hold the leakage

Don't sooth-say this
Or delay this
Or ginger-ale this
And we might have a good evening

Twenty-four miles to go
Can't say the word
Bringin' back dumb memories
Never gonna say the word...

It's already too late to fetch the shovel
That, and strings and wings won't fly
Doused and aroused and let loose
Fired up and burned down

Just like that strange old bridge
Anyone else seein' that bridge goin' down?
Or is it The bridge?

Forget it
It doesn't even matter
But what does matter is...

There will be a lunar eclipse tonight
Perfectly shadowed by greasy spoons
Still missing out on the moment
This moment, that moment,

This bridge, that bridge
It doesn't make much sense
A lefty left her
On a one-way street

Deteriorating like a lab rat exteriorating
Materializing like a substrate photosynthesizing
Just cuss it, and everything will be back to normal
Like diamonds dumped in an ocean

And scared, I shall be
And dusted, I shall be
But busted, I won't be
Never narc'd
On or off

Switched
Past the pane
Past the glass and sass
Broken, lying on the floor
Left a message
Couldn't stick it on the door
Just an ungrateful roar
Pessimistic, possibly
Deathly dodging all defeat

And so we know
The bridge is goin' down
But it's ok
We'll never go back to that town
