In For Life

In For Life

A Poem by Miles

It doesn't take much
To dive through jail bars
Cheek those cheeseburgers
And drink air from jars

Waiting for the whirlpool won't help
Dash four lines and cry about it
All you have are dice and cards
Invent signs and fight about it

Erase and face the danger
Conform and breathe the cancer
Forgive, forget, and twist
The traditionally defiant answer

Don't worry, there's always a rabbit hole
Above or under the poisoned lakes
Wishing upon the rain for something different
Could've jumped over the silver fences

You're in for life
Away from ours
Weep for your wife
As you lay for hours
