Ignorant Child

Ignorant Child

A Poem by Miles

Running around
Making loud sounds
Having some fun
Under the sun

They're unaware
Without a care
Open to change
Normal or strange

Don't know how free
They will not be
Don't know how far
They'll drive the car

Wanting to know
Don't want to go
Just want to stay
In here all day

Kids always need
Something to do
A mouth to feed
And cover, too

Not to smother
Druggin' mother
Deal with abuse
But it's no use

Ignorant child
Hurt to this day
Burned a bit mild
Too much to say

the process of aging and losing innocence in favor of maturity is always bitter sweet, but stolen childhood horribly painful. Very powerful poetry, I like how the tension is slowly built and hits the reader only on the two last verses. One comment- the last line of the sixth verse and the third line of the last verse are a bit weaker than the verses as a whole =)
