Watch Your Step

Watch Your Step

A Poem by Miles

Take a stab at this enzyme
Parachute down a water slide
Mix three teaspoons of spice
And try not to lose yourself

Not in a parking lot
Not at a gun range
Unprepared for an astral sunrise
The afterworld may be strange
Always bring lose change

The tire tracks run smooth on ice
Perpetrators injecting viruses
Spreading technological sinuses
But we're all out of holy water

Isn't it psychologically stressing
To perceive a tree
As astronomically significant as yourself?

...Not if it's yours
Growing on magical Norwegian shores
Treat a branch like a baby
A boy?
A girl?
It's a maybe

Take it to the vet
Don't sleep on the wheel
Get flooded in debt
Trip on a banana peel
