Immortal

Immortal

A Poem by Miles

He comes and goes swiftly
You will not remember him
That is immortal

He bears the mark of a lonely man
Though he treads through sea, snow, and sand
He knows much and remembers much
And the night lends him its sorrow

The earth cries for the immortal
He must ride as the eternal nomad
No love, no fame
He is the laughing shadow

Forever will the gates be closed
Even as he walks a thousand years
No amount of isolation, desperation, or motivation
Can save this exile in redemption

And yet he is in peace
Forever in the land of the living
He wears a genuine smile
In no need of forgiving
