Animal Tree

Animal Tree

A Poem by Miles

Fishes and steel toes
Pencils and tough foes
All in the life of an animal tree

But like all trees
There's a catch in the branches
Sooth-sayers
Breath-haters
And a load of monkeys

Bring a knife and an axle
And choose your blade wisely
For a song is made of rubber

...and stubble
But so is Santa Clause
Eliminating every major cause
Four-thousand red balloons stand similar
Shoulder to shoulder
Through thick and butter

Full of clutter
Sighing on about shutters
Death be thy name
And thy shame
Together united, and blamed

...though no longer aimed
To be, or not to be
Missiles miss their targets
And indubitably their cousins

On the edge of Mexico
Or naked on the roof of a Texico
You are loco!
And easily framed

...in my kitchen, tamed
Like an owl
Never fit to lead
Only fixed to feed
And breed, surely
If selection allowed it

So go forth!
Be a bee
Get a job
And make money
'Cause we're all about profit
