Lawyers

A Poem by Miles

As usual
They all came and went
Leaving paper frogs for their sewers
And the fledgelings will eat them

Just like I eat my silver spoons
Left to cook under the nighttime moons
And they will fry
But not without your help

Bring your sticks and stones
Remember to throw a bone
But don’t wake the neighbors
They’re on their periods

They’re all in debt, thanks to you
While I toiled at the swamp
You’ve gotten some money and a monkey
But it won’t do

Head to Mars and order some chicken
Grab a guillotine and a spiced onion
Jump in a boiling bowl of lava
And call my agent
You’re booked for Friday

The silverware’ll be melted
And we’ll have our tea
‘Til then
Roast a boar with me, friend
It’s time to fill with smirk and dread
