Statistic

A Poem by Miles

I know who I am
But I know it's not me
I'm a follower in the footsteps of thousands
A sprite in the Shepherd's woodlands

I will be documented
And when my run is over
There will be better versions of myself

And they will mark me
Statistically, dynamically
Without a real emotion

I don't understand your meaning
Constantly acting as if I know
As if I have known
And dwelled on it so obsessively

As you do
As you huddle, alone
In your noisy cell of despair
Spewing forth, poisoning the air

I find myself fearful again
In awe and acceptance
Not where I could imagine
Or hope to
And still I believe,
"This is it. This is where I belong."

Forever
From here to the ether
And lastly, I shan't deny
Nor trace foully
These one and zeros
Back to reality
