Rebirth

Rebirth

A Poem by Mikki Ciezki

 Look at you, standing there
staring into the mirror.
So full of doubt and fear.
Not sure where you're going
but you know exactly
where you've been.

Forgive and forget --
it's what we're taught.
But is that possible?
Should we really forget?
Always questioning advice,
never truly trusting.

Crumbling under the weight
of the pain and shame.
Constantly checking,
reassuring yourself
the walls are strong enough
to hold the world out,
never truly trusting.

But baby it's time.
Time to look in the mirror,
and to trust.

Look past the doubt and fear.
Try to forgive, but never forget,
use your past to brighten your future.
Build windows in the walls,
illuminate your life.
