What within the Neuron
Went wrong? With a severed leg or a scarred face I can see and know "this person is injured" But what is a scarred neuron? A Metaphor? So research shows that cortisol Damages neurons In large quantities Is that what it is? Is trauma the hidden Scars of a nervous system Melted from within By a stress hormone? Its tiring, so tiring Contemplating this question; Thought and feelings New types of perception emerge From different types of feeling Does the feeling in the body Hold the key? Is the thought just a feeling? Is there necessarily -physical damage - In the brain? But the feeling is so strong! A broken leg need not mean A broken self; No limb or organ Can deeply tinge the self But experiences? Shame. Shame. Repeated Again and again At an age where the mind doesn't know How to hold it away? No experiences to compensate Just a deepening, a widening And a pouring inside me Of a venomous Self loathing Creeping around Literally The reptilian brain Conservative Parasympathetic Hypo-aroused into Deep trance feeling My wound is hidden; The mind - effects of its force Yet just a bundle of nervous fibers All bunched up Moments cognitive; dissociated awareness How to pull away? © 2014 Mike DefreitasReviews
