The Ice BoxA Poem by Michael HowellThis is my first poem in a LONG time, so go easy :) Any suggestions or critisism would be awesome :)Thump. Thump. The tile cracks under your feet. Thump. Thump. With the weight of a burden no one can see.
Your smile is stretched so hard across your face your teeth have one minute before they break Your arms tremble with the weight of it all a hidden burden no one cares about
You smile, you wave, just to feel awake but none of it matters when you bend and break Alone with your thoughts and pent up knots misery fills, just the way you've been taught
Thump. Thump. Lightning strikes over your head. Thump. Thump. Hurting with thoughts that can never be said.
Unforgiving stares swallow you whole you feel you don't deserve to have a soul Washing your hands until they bleed but wearing gloves so no one will see
Frustrations others own stab inside a heart so wholy you feel divine Nailed to a cross but unable to call you keel in silence, bearing the weight of it all.
Thump. Thump. You snap your fingers to the sound. Thump. Thump. Of the sky exploding and to hell your bound.
This steel box feels so cold against your skin it rips you apaart to let the salt in The ocean rises, tendrils of water snare your mind like pages, left dry and bare
Your lungs pump out your final breath this ice box is all you have left Living inside a box full of dreams left undone, and now they'll never be
Thump. Thump. Your heart slowly grinds to a halt. Thump. Thump. All your wounds are filled with salt. Thump. Thump. How can I breathe in this heavy sea? © 2010 Michael Howell |
