Emerald DemonA Poem by Mike Espinosa"Devil take the hindmost," they said to me before racing off, leaving me to ponder my efforts to keep my fickle spirit aloft. The sky grew a dark ashen gray; the once joyous park seemed to sink; the whimsical breeze became desolate, and there was only one thing I could think. The devil's not in Georgia today. No, the devil's not in Georgia today. Horns emerging from a nearby knoll, a bloodied smirk appears, unleashing the tame. A booming voice that shakes everything in sight, saying, "I'm sure you know the game." A gulp escapes behind my growing snarl. A volcanic tear rolls past his grin. Devil take the hindmost, mother f****r, and I'm not going down again. He gets no sympathy from me. No, he gets no sympathy from me. © 2010 Mike EspinosaReviews
