12 StepA Poem by Mike Espinosa
I leaned forward,
I kissed your wrist. Your perfume lingered, You bit your lip. You closed the door behind you- never once stalled. My hands trembling, knees buckled, I crawled. Born Again. I asked myself about time; past, present, and future. I asked myself what made "I;" same brain, thought, or posture. I was not the same ten years ago, I did not have the same life. I was not the same ten days ago- I no longer had a wife. Born Again. On my own two feet I stand in defiance. I spit in your face of adversity. To hell with your god damned "love." The children are gone now, So talk to me like a man. No more fairy tales or pawns now, they won't help you on the stand anymore. Born again. The neighbors are screaming, but I don't hear them. I'm tired of all your lies. Just tell me what his name is- before you're f*****g out of time. Your shrieking echos down the street. everyone watches in horror. Your face reflected in this blade, the clouds gather in numbers. All eyes know what's coming, anticipating the inevitable. No one interferes or helps you; the irony is palpable. Your voice is incoherent. High, shrill, and panicked. You weren't going to give me an answer, So your life had to be ended. I thrust the dagger forward. Your screaming ceased. Your blood on my forearms. Rehabilitation over. Born Again. Born Again. © 2010 Mike Espinosa |
