Ghetto Royalty

Ghetto Royalty

A Poem by Mikalynne

everyone wants to be

ghetto royalty

little kings and queens

out runnin' the streets

r&b singers, rappers, actors, and m.c.'s

try to put the ghetto life

into beats and melodies

but there's a fine line between

ghetto royalty and project fiends

ya know what I mean

time to be heard and not seen

voices trailing in the wind

fall from heaven deep within

eternal voiced with messages send

peace to you and your brethren

but these words may carry offense

to what one stands for or against

to compromise belief and then

war begins

deadly outcome dripping bloody vengence

to you, your family, and your friends

but in this age of war and strige

with this one tryin' to end that one's life

in celebrity street life

somehow day turns to night

crushing future m.c.'s who desire great height

all this negativity is the source of my plight

no time for politeness

no time for the righteous

all there is time for

is the fight for the right touch

the fight against injustice

but somehow it's just us

the few who sees what's put before us

while they go on with their lives

their husbands, their wives

their guns, and their knives

but what they don't realize is

that weapons don't justify

all that's wrong between you and I

and somehow we still get by...
