The Sleeping CityA Poem by MikalynneI wrote this in my teens. I had often thought about, and even attempted, suicide. I know they say if you really wanted to you'd be dead, but luckily there were people in my life who really cared. As the night rolls by And the stars hang high Intrusive winds creep As the city sleeps
There are those who stay late With nothing to do but wait And for this reason they weep As the city continues to sleep
She waits with hope regarding The thoughts that keep bombarding Her mind's made up and complete During the city's long sleep
Slowly time ticks away Longing for the light of day And dreaming of the secret peace The city has while it sleeps
She decides with the last of sanity To arise and face her destiny She must do this while the city sleeps Its long and needy sleep
Under the stars so bright Just beneath the heavens divine The air is calm and serene As the lonely city dreams When the city awakens, they'll know But only when it awakens though But for now let it dream Let the tired city sleep
She goes now to receive her fate And plummets into an iron gate Life is fleating and soon will cease All this while the city sleeps
Across the horizon dawn now breaks And the dizzy city begins to wake And the light discovers what is left Of what ended while the city slept. © 2014 Mikalynne |
