If My Daddy Knew

If My Daddy Knew

A Poem by Midnitefyrfly
"

Written as a tribute on the one year anniversary of the death of my husband and children's father... almost 5 years ago....

"
If My Daddy Knew…

If he knew it would be the last time
that he’d see me fall asleep,
would he tuck me in more tightly
and pray the Lord my soul to keep?

If he knew it would be the last time
that he’d see me walk out the door,
would he give me a hug and kiss
and call me back for  more?

And if my Daddy knew he had to leave
and could never again see me smile,
I know he’d ask for one more minute
to stay and play with me awhile…

My Daddy had to go away from us
because his time was up you see,
but I have time to be with everyone
who means so much to me...

Just in case I might be wrong
and today is all I get,
I'd like to say how much I love you
and hope you don’t forget….

Tomorrow is not promised to you
young or old alike,
and today may be the last chance
I get to hold you tight.

So if you're waiting for tomorrow,
make some time and find a way.
For if tomorrow never comes,
you'll soon regret today...

Regret you didn't take that time
for a smile a hug and a kiss,
and you didn’t give someone
what was their one last wish.

So hold your loved ones close to you
and whisper in their ear,
that you love them very much and
that you hold them dear.

If I could have my Daddy back

I’d love him every day

and I’d never have to wonder

if he knows I feel that way

Deeply touching, emotional piece. Losing a Father and husband is awful, and wishing we had taken that time
for a hug, or kiss, but I think love is instilled, you know you are loved and that always keeps you warm.
I am very sorry for your loss.

Warn a girl! I knew that I was going to cry when I read the "description" I know firsthand what losing someone you love feels like - This is very beautiful and heart wrenching. I have to go find tissue now...
This will haunt me today...

I can not consider myself that close to my father, but I do love him and respect him. This has such a strong message and makes one reconsider all those relationships that are taken for granted. Good work.

Oh my goodness... I love this so much. Do you mind if I print it out and hang it on my bulletin board? It is seriously the best poem I've ever read. i was so close to tears... And I am so sorry for your loss.

This hits close to home for me... I always believe you need to let those you love know how you feel because sometimes tomorrow is to late... when I lost my mom suddenly last year the only thing that went through my head was what did I say to her last time we talked and to this day I can't remember... a very powerful poem with a message everyone should learn.

Such beauty and emotion, it brings a tear to my eye. It takes a strong individual to write, experience, and share this. You're an amazing writer but an even more amazing person as you continue to persevere and stay strong. May I send out my prayers and condolences, and thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing this.

my teenagers are well past wanting hugs and kisses from their mom...they get them anyway (I'm so very pushy lol). This is so true....so very well written....so heart wrenching...nicely done.
