DifferentA Poem by MichaelaA poem about why differences are good, and what it means to be yourself.
As I look all around, all I can see
Are people looking back at me. Being different is something I love to be, It's what makes me, me. Everyone is so afraid to show who they really are, They keep the real them away so far. Dancing in an empty room, I let me be me, But when someone else comes along that wasn't me. Breaking from the meaningless molds, From stares and words that are only cold, I smile and feel the warmth on my cheeks, And I don't care if I'm labeled a freak. Then comes along more like me, the brave ones, The girls and boys who still love fun, The ones who can smile in the face of defeat, And show that it's something that can beat. Together we show the world, that not everyone's the same, But that's what makes us who we are, this isn't just a game. And as we dance around the room, smiles all around, We know that true happiness we have finally found. Sitting back in that room, with stares abound, I smile, laugh, and joke a bit to fill the room with sound, Though not everyone will like me, and not all will change, I think I've conquered my fears once again. So the next time I'm dancing all alone, if someone strays close, I'll offer them the dance, and hope our freedom grows. Differences are little things that make us who we are, So instead of pushing them away and making them go far, Cherish them, as you don't know what tomorrow brings.
