I Love You

I Love You

A Poem by A

I confide in you
Every time
I'm starting to realize my mistakes
My burden
Is way too much
To force upon your mind
Your forehead will burst
Every 'I love you'
Will spill to the floor
And muddle itself
Until they are indistinguishable
From 'I hate you'

Normal conversations fall to
"I'm having a bad day"
"That's just it. Yesterday was a bad day too"
"I'm sorry"
"And the day before that"

Over time
Exhaustion settles over
I have to pretend
To be content, happy
To keep you from being sad
While the whole time
I struggle
With this monster inside of me
This depression
This mess

Soon all of our conversations are ending
"Sorry"
"I'm sorry"
"I said it first"
"Well I meant it more"

Instead of
"Love you"
"I love you"
"I said it first"
"Well I meant it more"

Love and sadness
Can destroy us all
If we let it
