Day One

Day One

A Chapter by Melly
"

Prologue, really

"

About six years ago, I moved to Bridgeport. I didn't know who I was going to meet, or who was going to become friends with me. I was nine at the time, and when I got to my new house, I met this boy. His name was Tyler, and he lived right across the street from me. He had blonde hair, and was missing a tooth in the front.

He was sitting outside of his house, watching the movers do their job. His mom, Lainey saw him and ran over to meet my parents. Mom and dad started talking to her. Lainey said that she had a son, Tyler, who was nine years old and going into the fourth grade. My parents told them how old I was and that I too was going into the fourth grade.

Because we were both the same age, so they planned a day where I would go over to meet Tyler, and hang out with him. Not knowing who he was, I just agreed to go over, and hoped for the best. Let me just say, that day changed my life.

I went over with my parents a few days after we moved in.
I only stayed for a matter of minutes, because I had to go with my parents to school to meet my new teachers. The only part I remember was the first few words.

My mom and I walked up his stairs, I was nervous to meet a new boy, and especially one who lived across the street. Mom knocked on the door, and I heard his mother call to him "Tyler come here, there's a girl I want you to meet."

I looked at him at first and I was amazed. His blonde hair was even blonder than it had seemed when I first saw him. He had the bluest eyes ever, and he was missing a tooth. I spoke first.

"Hi, my name is Naomi. I'm nine and I live across the street."
"Hi, I'm Tyler. I'm nine too. We're gonna be good friends. And plus," he paused "I think you're really pretty."

I was taken aback by this, even at nine years old. Our mothers giggled at us, and then we had to say goodbye. I dropped something on the porch, and to this day only me and Tyler know what happened. I went back and went to grab it. He was holding my ribbon in his hand.

"You forgot this."
"Yes, I know. But I have to go."

"You're really pretty. I like you." He had a huge grin on his face.
"Keep it until I come back. I have to go now."

And before I knew what was happening, Tyler hugged me, and I was down the stairs. It was weird, at nine years old to hug a boy. So I was as confused as can be.

Boy, was Tyler smart.
