Steadily Evolving

Steadily Evolving

A Poem by MichelleSun
"

This is so self-centered...I will admit to that

"

Who can be a better me than me?

Done spent 20 some odd years trying to get on my feet

And through this I gain balance

I feel it is time now that I step to the challenge

The challenge to be what I appear to be

Strong, Confident, Unbreakable

It’s my time now

I’m capable

I don’t have to say it

Your favorite DJ will play it time and time again

The love pool’s deep end

that we all fall in

I am a fool with Love

Cheaply priced

It would go for twice that amount in Vegas

Why let Disney play us?

Aladdin didn’t come for me

Yet

Who could get me?

Who can understand?

More precious than a diamond

Still valuable without a man

But stronger with

Do you know what you are up against?

I walk against the wall

Standing tall like Rosa Parks

If you push me

I’ll look up

Behind me

No options

Before me

No one

I am a hot drink in the winter

I am a breeze on a Summer’s day

My smile

Nothing can explain its rays

The story in my eyes would surprise the truest prophet

Who could get it?

Who can understand?

More precious than a diamond.

Still valuable without a man.

But I am doing this

For a chance

A chance at make-believe

To make you believe, boy, this girl is really free.

Truth is   I am weak and captive of

my dreams

I wrote a monologue about pride-vs-conceit that I should perhaps post here on the cafe sometime. Everyone draws the line somewhere different. I know where you come from. I've survived many things in my 28 years that most people only have bad dreams about- but I made it. I have a deep sense of pride in that, as well as in my work, and my writing. Some people will try to drag you down when they see any sense of pride in your accomplishments, or self esteem. Those people will call you conceited and self centered. Don't listen. Keep standing tall. Be proud. It seems to me you deserve to feel as such. Then again, most people do. They just let others keep them from feeling it.
Well done,
C

This is brilliant! I love how your only weakness is your own dreams, and only they are able to control you. This is something I can definitely relate to. It may sound self-centered, but it's wonderful all the same. I loved reading this!
