Summer SolsticeA Poem by Michelle GentMy daughters piano teacher. Who teaches the autistic children
Summer Solstice-
Her skin the color of honey wheat Setting nautical blue eyes aglow Cascading hair spills over shoulders The color of sunflowers and sweet corn All the good things that summer is made of Her petite frame looks somewhat meek But her big, bold, happy laugh shines Making you feel welcomed And wanting to kick up your feet and stay awhile Her blouse falls to either side Like a butterfly landing on a ledge Her ebony eyelashes fall, looking over keys As chubby little fingers play diligently Tickling the ivories She is the giver of light, the bearer of gifts Giving the gift of music to the autistically challenged The pied piper of piano Giving her little blind mice of intellect Insight, song and a sense of belonging Setting them up on a stage for many to applaud She stands humbly behind the curtain, eyes wide Beaming with pride Not knowing it is she who should be applauded © 2015 Michelle GentAuthor's Note
