You Take The Low Road

You Take The Low Road

A Poem by Michelle Gent

Standing strong to your own beliefs. Religious or otherwise

You Take The Low Road-

Maybe I'm spiritual
You can call me a fool
A dreamer who hasn't a clue

Fantasizing of angels and ghostly spirits
watching over me
Helping me feel safe and secure

There are worse things I suppose
Such as being overly analytical
questioning, distrusting, always on guard
Never trusting what you feel in your heart

An individual in need of answers, fact, proof
You with your mind always thinking
over rationalizing, never just to be

To let a greater power be your guide
So sad, to be so cynical
Letting the world jade and distort
hope you once held in your hand

I choose the high road
I need no validation
peace is my confirmation

Fantasy, fiction it's fun to believe
The here-after is the only affirmation
until then, I'll stay on my path
Destined for serenity, that's my proclamation
