Big Yellow School Bus

Big Yellow School Bus

A Poem by Michelle Gent
"

My daughters first day of school. Coming home on the bus

"
Big Yellow School Bus-

"That's it, I knew it
I damaged her for life"
I can see she's crying already
While being removed
From that big yellow school bus

It should have been red
That would have given me a heads up

She's crying hysterically
Tears streaming down her face
As doors open and she emerges
Descending the stairs reluctantly

Pounding the doors that have shut
She was having too much fun
On that big yellow school bus
She was crying because the ride was over

She screams, "No yellow bus!"
"Don't go, don't go yellow bus!"
She pleads with the inanimate object
As if expecting a response

"No yellow bus
Come back", she yells
While running down the street
trying to catch it
Like a yapping pooch chasing a bicyclist

See I knew it, I had nothing to be afraid of
I wasn't worried one bit
After all it's only a little yellow school bus
