A Poem by Michelle Gent

About adopting

"
Babies With Price Tags-

Orphanages bursting at the seams
Filled to maximum capacity
Some babies sharing bassinets

Millions of Americans childless
Who'd do just about anything
to bring a baby home

Some taking out second mortgages
or maxing out their credit cards
Putting financial well being at risk

Many couples don't have this luxury
Babies on strings just out of reach
$25,000, $35,000, $55,000

That's the price on their heads
If you can't pay
they'll just have to stay

Your only other option foster care
You can have your pick of the litter
Crack babies, abused children
and psychologically damaged
from parents and the system

Or perhaps get attached to a child
Only to have them taken away
When their biological mother's sobriety
is temporarily intact

Babies, babies for sale
to the highest bidder

Dear Collyn,

Thank you so much for you generous critique. I really appreciate it. It meant a lot.

People seldom actually think about the horrible things some children and babies go through. Beautiful writing and wonderful flow. I like how the end kind of makes everything sink in. Very deep and heart-wrenching. Great work!
