Playful Pop and Pal

Playful Pop and Pal

A Poem by Michelle Gent
"

A relationship between a father and his daughter

"
Playful Pop and Pal-

My husband runs his stubble over our three year old's cheek
"Oh beardy, beardy,"  he says teasingly
"Oh okay dokay", she says laughingly
before she decides she's had enough briefly walking away

Seconds later she declares, "You get the splinters away from me"
Referring to his 5 o'clock shadow, not having the terminology down
Now it's my turn to laugh

She provokes prompting another game
"I can't get me!", she says
The statement of the inebriated or a three year old

Shrieking, giggling already anticipating the chase
Her playtime pal accommodates
Big kid and little kid pop out periodically
Yelling peek-a-boo, I'm gonna get you, says her daddy
She screams running and laughing all the way

Never growing tired of such a scene
My husband's youth induced
through the scattered pixie dust and winding charms
of his exhuberant daughter
Silly games of the moment forming bonds to last a lifetime
