Mother Ship

Mother Ship

A Poem by Michelle Gent
"

A fetus invetro

"
Mother Ship-

Little fetus drifting weightless
In the depths of my soul you swim
Vocalization indistinct echoes
From your end of a distant civilization

An umbilical cord your only tie
Connecting you to mother ship
Familiarity tainted by amnesia
No prior recall to speak of

You live in an awe inspiring world
Though foreign to me
Ascension, dissension, fetal position
I can feel you within

As your navigator, I wonder
If the transmissions I'm sending
Are making their way through
all the tangled plumbing

Your heart beats and blood flows
Via me, your guardian and transporter
I, your only connection to the outside world
Until now, mission control is on hand
Eagerly awaiting your signal to count you down

Taking you on your final decent
And last leg of the journey
Touch down, earth bound
Home into the arms of your loving Mother
