To find Beauty in a Negative SpaceA Poem by Michael GillWithout the sensation of hate, we would never know how to loveBelow the stars showered by night and through every beat of a broken heart A vagrant light begins to fade And so does every love we've ever shared Passion, spirit and soul that once was a Spring blossom Has left nothing for us but the sharp sting of a dead vine The cold bite of an empty heart Burns longer than the scream of a volcano And the ash captures us Blinding every memory that brought us together I look at you through a sharp shard of shattered glass Seeing nothing but a broken man And I realize only now that love should not be sought after Just the same as hate should not be avoided Because without both, one would never know the other Taking from me the chance to have ever loved you at all
