The Autumn Sonata

The Autumn Sonata

A Poem by Michael Oliver
"

This is the first of three movements -

"
-   the flower is turning - this today' game
memory along - with hedges  - proved to be obscured
the Te Deum of desire is confounded by leaves
as slumber creeps upon the sense so shaped

- locked in it's abuse - the quiet soul - existential
- a question - a relief - beckoned by fading lanes
frames - now village painted walls - some score partridge
- a hobbled discretion - intent - on feeding - random graze

- branches touch the earth  - each one a genuflection
the world found again - a course is closing
the infinite - now a warm space - a single room
a robins song defined - final in the compass

my bell - treble precise sounds - a marked bloom
well repeated vows - a wedding - alternate investment
- loops of festooned ropes - mystery touched - cast shadows
' Look to - the trebles going - she's away '

luck lays by a form - a four -leafed clover
the topic dropped - discarded - the wan sunlight forgets
below - a congregation's chorale - a patriotic Holst gusto
seasons this marriage day - as the veil dissolves

autumn, the changes, the dying, the gathering, summer limping towards winter...movement in color, movement in music, movement towards change.
nicely done.

So many layers in this. Your Autumn is defined by the shadows cast from your past and the marriage bells...Excellent...:)...............

I like capturing the world in various mediums for a long time I was a painter, but more recently I realize the same imperative can be used to direct words as well as brushes. more..
