Beyond

A Poem by Michael Oliver
"

this is a work in progress - a fragment of a thought or approach or an image - based on things on a shelf above my fire place

"
On the mantel piece - glass things - parade a problem
Of random light - grabbed - arrested - as occasional thoughts
Placed - propped - pictured - accidental accents - a narrative flow
Import happened - intent intended - a reflection queue waits
Two women linger -over the fence - bare trees
Of grisaille gradation - woodcut warm - and snow gray
Silent - the world veiled - a waft of remembering
A truth - it was - when times were younger
The word in her lap - finds her unsuspecting womb
A dove in flight - 'The' - messages - captured between
Dialogue - action and a prayer - apart and beyond
The lost world - outside - repeats - bows - all enfolds
Painted two lost centuries ago - Judy understood
My old hat - living innocent - under my words
Her world - accent comfortable - found - a confirmation
My - simple old country boy - became her proof
Jung's stones - sacred - leaned on - an assay
A present - a temporary now - and once future
'From Dubrovnik' - my fathers relived war - as retold
This son's finale - dropped earth - on his coffin
Morleys farm house - 'and stop' - we sat - looked
Here - black and white - as the passing passed
A boy - unoccupied with time there - my maybe
Sat here - what was is - remains thus imagined
So now - I sigh - the card with tulips
Praising words - a prayer - my words spoken out
From within what - desperated by the times need
And days eternal given - of love - 'The' love
Change is not abrupt - change - a gentle transform
By the yen for stability - and put back
Because - because - too dark - the recent was not
The fit for this present but it's passing

About
I like capturing the world in various mediums for a long time I was a painter, but more recently I realize the same imperative can be used to direct words as well as brushes. more..
