To John

To John

A Poem by Michael Oliver
"

this is not about death but about life's affirmation I was gardening and a wild rose caught my attention while cutting the grass.

"
                                               wild rose white alone
                                               attracts the idle attention
                                               a today beauty fading
                                               pick it? send it?
                                               death arrives so soon
                                               why hasten it's white demise
                                               can it's slaughter prove
                                               my mirrors fixed bloom
                                               all things do pass
                                               our exit will come
                                               a single remembered joy
                                               carried on infinities breeze

I like the poem's troubled affirmation as questions ruffle its calm surface, mostly emphatically at the end of the first stanza, but in the second line of the second stanza, and, for me a question precedes the opening to the final stanza that prompts the slightly defensive 'do', as if the speaker has been challenged and must restate the point.

dark matter...so much to feel and nothing tangible to see..just the space in the currency of being plugged into silhouetting the unknown..great piece

Ah....I love the choice .. the crossroad..
At that moment that single life of a flower was at your mercy
To pick it and end it's life for your wants or to let the flow of life live on.
I am so glad you chose to "let live"

There was more of a Spiritual lesson here then just about a single flower. I don't think it was coincidence that the Rose happened to be a white Rose. symbolic for innocence/purity.

I believe it was a wonderful lesson and I believed you aced it.

John must be very special to you Michael. This is an exquisite blend of longing, joy, resignation and hope. I really Lovﻉ it's simplicity and fresh, crisp imagery. You are an artist.
