"Hotel California" ... A terrible disappointment...A Story by MICHAELANGELO BARNEZAbout the authors and their recognitions...To the disappointment of many people, including mine, the music of "Hotel California" does not belong to those who claimed to be the authors, Don Felder, Glenn Frey, Don Henley, members of the band "The Eagles". On the contrary, it was taken and arranged from another song: "We Used To Know" of the group: Jethro Tull. Actually, "The Eagles" were their opening act while Jethro Tull was on tour in USA (1972) and heard this song many times, and then, in 1976, the Eagles gave new lyrics and musical arrangement to call: "Hotel California". It is well to recognize that the arrangement of Don Felder and Don Henley lyrics were fabulous and took the Eagles to become a super group... Notwithstanding, we cannot fail to note that after all was an arrangement from the mentioned song above. The criticism was that the Eagles did not recognize it for years, until one of their so-called authors, Don Felder, admitted in his book: "Heaven and Hell: My Life in the Eagles" (2006). Ian Anderson, author and member of Jethro Tull, never demanded or claimed as author royalties for the music, unlike he joked and took the version: "Hotel California" as a tribute to his music.
