Mothering Love

Mothering Love

A Poem by Michaela Moerke

I will always need you
For you gave me a soul
If any fact is true
It is that you make me whole

For nine months you held me beneath your heart
From then you kept me close to it
Of you I will always be a part
One with your spirit

You gave me all you could
Taught me everything
Made me good
All because you're so caring

Yay! That is such a wonderful idea for a gift - it's a beautiful way to pour out your emotions, and your mother will cherish the time, effort, and skill you devoted to writing these poems. I love this poem and the connection - physical, emotional, and spiritual - that it illustrates between you and your mother. My favorite lines by far are "For nine months you held me beneath your heart / From then you kept me close to it." That is so beautiful! I wouldn't change a thing about this poem. Excellent work!

I feel this is a lovely piece that any mother would be brought to tears if their child gave them this. I would not change anything in this poem. The first line, "I will always need you" is a terrific opening line.

Well done.
