Why Won't You Go?

Why Won't You Go?

A Poem by Michael Hess

12:17 A.M.

I get out of bed,

Light up a cigarette,

Rub my headache away.

I've had a hard time

Tryin' to get you off my mind.

You just won't go away.

Why won't you go?

Please just go.

Why won't you go?

I need to move on.

Drivin' down that road,

Not knowin' where to go,

Just as far from you as I can.

One hand on the wheel,

Why can't I heal,

Heal the damn hole in my heart?

I'm doin' too much drinkin',

Doin' too much thinkin'.

It hurts me all the same.

I can't erase memories,

I can't erase anything,

Not even your name.

Why won't you go?

Please just go.

Why won't you go?

I want you to go.

I'm with this new girl.

She's not what you were.

She's drivin' me up a wall.

I'm so sick of her bullshit.

I'm ready to just quit

This fucked up game of love.

All this damn drinkin'

And all this damn thinkin'

Have got me livin' the past.

I gotta change my ways,

Need to look for better days.

Life goes by too fast.

Why won't you go?

I want you to go.

Why won't you go?

I need you to go.

Brutally honest, strong and sad.
Moving on is never easy, a broken heart can never be healed, and most people live with their past tucked away.

The rhythmic pattern is amazing, repetative like the thought itself that won't fade away...
Great write.
