She Unnames Him

She Unnames Him

A Poem by Michael Hess

He gave her his heart.

She gave him her words.

She said she had feelings for him,

But those flew like birds.

The two stayed best friends,

But he still fell for her.

Unrequited feelings

Are his biggest curse.

He knows together they'd be perfect,

But she is so afraid

That they would take a turn for the worst,

And their friendship would never be the same.

His greatest want is her happiness,

No matter what his sacrifice.

He is so afraid to lose her.

For her, he would give his life.

He knows he doesn't deserve her,

And she deserves much better than him.

But he will never desert her.

The two are infinite.

"Watch it burn to your fingertips.

Everything stings a bit."

"This could be perfect

If I wasn't worthless."

She became the devil,

And only cared for herself.

She made his world unlevel

And turned it into a hell.

All with a single lie

And with a single change,

She took from him so much,

Almost everyone and everything.

She blamed me for her mistakes

And each and every problem,

While she's the only one who makes them

And the only one who can solve them.

I've left this all behind,

Though still it eats at my heart

And it tears through my mind.

But I NEED a fresh start.
