Adversity poemA Poem by micahdJust a poem written for the poet challenge
My heart stopped for a moment
Then with the short breath of air that my lungs could muster I answered yes Joy welled up inside, my face gleamed with overt luster, I was truly blessed I was not at all apprehensive, I'd be going on the offensive, marching with the best But, maybe I'd have refused, if I had known the truth of what was coming next I marched with my bow on back which my father had delicately carved Bits of sawdust flying off as he chiselled with his steady arm See since I was knee high I had been hunting game So everybody knew that I was the archer with the truest aim So it came as no surprise when our company stopped and I was asked to take a shot Steady arm, short breaths, I got my target on lock and what a shock I said 'Wait, thats just a farmer with a pitchfork.' The commander replied, 'Quiet soldier just take the shot with no talk and no thought.' But to be a mindless drone is something I was never taught Independent of a controller my mind went on a walk Or more like run, I was done, threw my bow done and told the commander what I thought 'This isn't war, its just the slaughter of the hopeless and poor. There is no mercy in their Adversity and thats a fact I can't ignore. So I refuse to march and take part with you barbarians anymore.' Those were the last words to grace my lips before my head rolled on the floor. © 2016 micahd |
