Romantic

A Poem by miahstr

He was a romantic

flowers

cards

little post it notes

Showing his affection

with this or that confection

he made his love material

and watched as surprise

turned to expected

It was her orbit

that kept him circling

every sunrise and sunset

It worked for awhile

his romantic charm

bought him her attention

but little did he know

How she bathed in moonlight

Working him during the day

and working the other at night

It wasn’t till valentine's

when his heart was rejected

She had taken his gift

and left him neglected

what happened next

may have been expected

but the man was

Loss and all it reflected

He had a favorite spot

He used to go

so he packed his gun

and made to say farewell

He wasn’t good enough

Was his final thought

as his finger made a final bow

He was a romantic

The strength of his love

somehow ended his life

and lead to more misery and strife

His kind of obsession

can be a curse

when you love so hard

you diminish your own worth

The moral I suppose

is to value yourself

don’t define love

on what you bought off the shelf
