The Dark

The Dark

A Poem by mhylands

Pacing along the bleak shores of insanity
Contemplating the deep beyond
I clench tightly at my chest in agony
Unable to hear her respond

Ensnared by the muddied waters
High tide encroaches in perilous haste
I gasp and falter before her
Pleading that this life was not a waste

What has become of the drowned father?
The laws were not to blame
Caught up in a self-destructing slaughter
He has been stripped of the name

I know not why the fire ran out
That one force to redeem my pride
I plunged straight into the dark abyss
Without thought on how to escape

I will not be beaten
But my strength is running out
Where lies the waning light?
The vanishing sight?
