Dwellings of Somberance

Dwellings of Somberance

A Poem by mhylands

Marking off another day, ever wondering
Will the sun return in warm embrace?
Will the stars illuminate the night sky once more?
As chills crawl across my skin and reality starts to sink in
This martyrdom turns to a misguided suicide
The burning question without an answer
Levee to the imminent flood
Destined downfall as the cracks sprawl
Stern and absolute, leaving the delicate façade brittle
Intricately woven ties undone effortlessly
Dissolution of bonds once unbreakable
The internal turmoil, vicious and relentless
Yet unable to consume my soul
With every setback, every struggle
The fight endured and overcome
Albeit, breakdown inevitable to ensure sturdy reparations
Is it possible to restore what is lost?
Patience, virtue or fallacy?
Abstain from rash decisions, endure without promises
Dwellings of somberance make poor homes
Foreboding abode, vacant and remote
Unable to reminisce while futures are already histories
Seasons cycle and stories unfold
